Landowners, farmers and rural businesses have approached Westminster to urge MPs to safeguard migrant workers post-Brexit. A shortage of workers could lead to increases in food imports and prices due to the reduced production and growth of UK farms.

Many farms already struggle to recruit in the UK making teams of migrant workers vital to a farms success. Farmers are looking to alternatives should workers choose not to come.

“We’ve got to invest in new technologies to aid farming and in particular AgriTech, to make [farms] more labour saving and [incorporate] robotics on the field and in our warehouses” Robert Smith of Russell Smith Farms, Duxford.
